2026 Summer Day Camps: July 6th-July 17th 9am-11pm
Mrs. Keough's Cursive Camp
Dates: July 6-10th
Times: 9:00am-10:00am (younger beginner class); 10:00am-11:00am (older intermediate class)
Cost: $50
At Ancient Paths we strive to reclaim an old and beautiful way of writing which is tried and true. We want to treasure the discipline cursive requires and treasure the amazing way it affects the human brain. Cursive is a classical method of writing, rooted in a historic tradition, and it is also optimal for developing fine motor skills. Cursive engages a natural movement of the hand, compared to the straight lines and circles that we ask small children to make with exact precision.
This one week course covers the cursive alphabet and helps students practice their cursive writing with an emphasis on beautiful penmanship in a joyful classroom environment. This course is recommended for any student who would like to sharpen their cursive skills but it is especially valuable practice for younger students. Both intermediate and beginner courses will be offered.
Phonics Camp
Dates: July 13th-17th
Times: 9:00am-10:00am
Cost: $50
This week long phonics camp equips parents to teach their children how to read and give those brand new to reading, or early readers, a strong foundation in phonics which will set them up for reading success. This camp is especially helpful to parents of students coming into Ancient Paths who do not know how to read, are struggling readers, or beginners.
The first day class will be for parents only, and childcare will be provided. Mrs. Keough will demonstrate how we teach the phonograms and spelling words at Ancient Paths. Parents will know how they can specifically partner with the classroom teacher in teaching your child how to read, improve their fluency, and comprehension. We will be using Phonogram flashcards and McGuffey readers.
During the remainder of the week, your child will learn phonograms, and how to sound out words by segmenting and blending. This will be reinforced with reading homework each day. The homework will be tailored to each student.
Latin Boot Camp
Dates: July 6-10th & July 13-17th
Times: 10am-11am
Cost: $300
In the same way that modern history can be understood better in light of ancient history, a student can appreciate and understand modern languages and cultures by being immersed in the languages and cultures of the past. Ancient languages, such as Latin, not only present the tools of language to our students, they also offer doors into the past where students can walk down the paths of the ancients, read their actual words, and learn to more fully engage in the world which has made us who we are today.
This two week course covers the foundational elementary instruction for beginning Latin. This is highly recommended for students entering Latin I in their fourth grade year. This course will also be helpful for current Latin students to stay sharp over the summer.
Keyboarding Camp
Dates: July 13th-July 17th
Times: 9am-10am
Cost: $50
This course is for students 4th grade and older. Students will develop practical keyboarding skills through instruction and guided practice in proper technique, posture, and finger placement. Throughout this week-long course, students will increase typing speed and accuracy while cultivating diligence, attentiveness, and excellence in their work. Typing remains a valuable tool in many facets of life.
